Last week we had the pleasure to try Jack Saloon‘s new menu and the dishes were exquisite and quite innovative taking our favorite recipes to the next level by adding a little twist to them. As I was tasting, I could feel the different ingredients explode and mix in my mouth and it was pure magic.
Imagine eating a burger with Krispy Kreme donut buns, a general tao tempura nuddles burger, a variety of tartatres mixing yogourt, wasabi, salmon, beef, tuna, vodka and clamato, a gratin mac and 4 cheeses that melts in the mouth (one of my faves), giant beer-battered onion rings with Stout caramel drizzle, smoked chicken wings drizzled with Stout caramel, a big slice of steak covered in pepper and enhanced with Grand Slam sauce of dill and mustard (another fave), a big slice of filet mignon With fennel and coffee crust, covered in ancho, guajillo and pasilla chili Bordelaise sauce emulsified with butter and dark chocolate, a big slice of tuna steak with japenese marinade or a a beyond exquisite cocoa crème brulée (no words can express the feeling of its taste!). Enough with my favorites, check out the menu and make your own fave list of must trys here.
The Jack opened about a year ago in the heart of old Montreal, on St-Paul near Place Jacques Cartier. The restaurant also has its terrasse on De la Commune. The building has its own historical building plate and when you go down stairs to the unisex washroom, you can see the remains of a historical stone wall protected by a glass wall. And, as strange as it may seem, I loved the concept of the toilets which were designed considering our needs: Ladies, there’s a mirror in each individual toilet to tuch up your makeup and a shelf and handle for your jacket and your purse. The restaurant decor was inspired by the american secession war, so you’ll see portraits of Abe Lincoln and other generals. It could be described as historical meets modern references in a refined ambiance, which is a refreshing, never seen before, mix. One of the things I surprisingly LOVED, was the live professional singer playing guitar at just the right level of decibels. It gives the ambiance a personal touch. I was also told that Wednesday night was open mic night, your time to shine…
Last Wednesday, Jack had the media launch of their new night club called 2SIX9, which takes its name from its address on De la Commune. The club’s ambiance has a glam lounge feel. It’s basically the living room of your dreams in a bar, lounge, restaurant and night club. Oh and in case you haven’t seen the pictures on social media the One tree hill cast spent some time at the restaurant a couple of weeks ago, see it here. Jack has also a presence in quebec city and Dix-30.
