Also, in case you haven’t heard, Lucky Magazine recently announced it was ending its operations. Lucky, was once an important avant garde player in the fashion magazine industry and one of Conde Nast’s best selling magazines next to Vogue and The New Yorker. The magazine was targeting young fashionable professional women looking for more affordable shopping lists than what we can find in the pages of Vogue. In 2014, Conde Nast sold to beachmint who had ecommerce shopping conversion plans in mind. After laying off some full time employees, the resignation of its former editor in chief Eva Chen, now Instagram’s new head of fashion partnerships, the change from monthly to quarterly publication, then becoming an electronic publication and finally announced the end of the magazine’s life.
The tragic end known by the magazine is due to the competition that rose through social media, blogs and other magazines adjusting and offering a shopping sections in their editorials. Lucky Magazine failed to adjust to the new realities of the market and lost its competitive edge.
Also recently, Premières en Affaires announced it was closing its doors after 8 years of operations. The announcement was made on their Facebook page and its founder Margarita Lafontaine thanked all who shared the big adventure. The magazine was dedicated to the thrive of business women. We can observe some similarities with Lucky’s fate after the rise of social media and blogs.
