Chris M. and I recently attended the opening of Espace Urbain, a photography studio and boutique by Franca Perroto in association with Myriam Landry. The studio is located at suite 340 of 6750 de l’Esplanade Avenue. Franca is a photographer and makeup artist who studied artistic makeup, specializing in horror movies, at the Joe Blasco academy in Hollywood. She graduated as valedictorian and then decided to explore photography and fell in love with that art. As to what photography represents to Franca, the artist shared with us: “I like playing and molding the appearance of a person to show who she really is inside, it’s like I get immersed inside her and bring her true self to the surface to showcase and capture it in photos”. Her diverse talents as a photographer, makeup artist, hair dresser, stylist and graphic designer help in that sense.
While specializing in portraits, she shoots corporate and creative. She likes to capture people’s souls, it all comes from within the person. She explained that, as an artist, whether it’s through a picture, a drawing, a graphic design or a painting, she wants to capture your soul no matter your age, style, personality or appearance. She wants to show the real you. That’s her creative line. She describes her style as Vamped Glam, she captures the carnal in the ordinary, the vibrant, the colors, the sparkle and dares going above and beyond. She has shot, only to name a few, Marianna Mazza, Anne-Marie Losique and Philippe Bond.
The 2,500 Sq ft studio will be in use at least 16 hours a day. It can be rented through the website, by phone or text message. It could be used by photographers, models for shoots as well as for an event or vernissage. The beauty of this concept is how it offers a complete service solution with the option to use the in house camera, flash, makeup, hair spray, food, (even plasters), etc. The boutique space offers a bunch of creative local Montreal products such as clothing, pillow and cellphone covers, silk scarfs, makeup bags, jewelry and beauty from consigners like dada collection, sarcasm and other products displayed in a catalog for online shopping. Some of those products feature Franca’s printed photos and art. Everything is organic, biodegradable or recycled, as she wanted to create a welcoming space where people would feel at home and would have access to everything they need while respecting and encouraging environment awareness. There are 2 studios, a white and a black one. The first one is bright and provides a carefully conceived light room and the second one is darker and perfect for glamorous takes. The hourly rates don’t exceed $100.00, which is in the city’s affordable end of price ranges.
