Every Christmas time, Montreal’s local fashion designers and artisans gather in different Christmas markets, themed or not. They are gradually scheduled almost as a shopping advent in itself offering discovery treats for avid shopping explorers and original gift seekers alike. Here is our 2019 Christmas markets shopping guide.
1. La Petite Station. [Nov 4 – Dec 27]. This pop up shop is the little sister to Station Service, a local ethical brands clothing rental and retail boutique founded by Raphaëlle Bonin, an inspiring up and coming young entrepreneur in the city. You will be able to browse through a variety of local ecofriendly item categories such as clothing, accessories, lingerie, beauty, home decor, books and zero waste.
2. Dress To Kill Magazine’s Christmas Pop Up. [Nov 14 – Dec 30]. This luxury pop up by non other than Dress To Kill Magazine, in the heart of Quartier Dix30, is a luxury holiday season gift shopping heaven and a secret garden to help you indulge on some pretty fine finds for yourself. The pop up is set as a café boutique aiming to favor connections and interactions within a stimulating artistic environment, very magazine like, offering Canadian fashion, jewelry, beauty and home decor items. This initiative by Kathia Cambron, DTKM’s editor in chief, follows the magazine’s mission of highlighting the country’s diverse pool of creative talent, this time in a physical space and through different events and conferences throughout its pop life. And on Thursday November 28th, DTK Men will be hosting a shopping experience with its Winter 2019 Male Cover personality, Lexson Mathieu, the future boxing champion.
3. Etsy’s Holiday Market. [Dec 13 – Dec 15]. Etsy’s collective of creative designers and artisans invite you to their mid December pop up market at the Denise Pelletier Theater in Hochelaga, gathering 100 Etsy and Hochelaga neighborhood artisan makers showcasing their home decor , jewelry, children’s clothing, toys, accessories, skin care and culinary products.
4. The Pepin Shop’s Christmas Market. [Nov 21 – Dec 22]. The Pepin Shop courtyard in beautiful Old Montreal becomes a magical winter garden entrance leading to a crafty Christmas market every Thursday through Sunday for a month. You’ll be able to find a variety of unique home pieces ranging from funky wall papers to sofas, dinnerware and candles. You will also be able to find a Christmas tree and participate to workshops for gift wrapping or Christmas wreath making. You’ll also be invited to visit their sister boutique Espace Pepin for trendy fashion items ranging from clothing to footwear, perfume, bags and accessories.

6. The Nutcracker Market. [Nov 28 – Dec 8]. This Christmas market is organized by The Canadian Grand Ballets with 10% of its sales benefiting the organization and allowing sick children to participate to educational workshops and Nutcracker representations, adding a philanthropy layer to your gift shopping. This 10th edition will gather 100 exhibitors at Palais des Congres de Montreal. Products include culinary delights, home decor, jewellery, accessories, beauty, children’s clothes and toys.
7. Grover’s Holiday Market. [Dec 5 – Dec 8]. The designers and artists of the Grover building in Hochelaga will be opening their doors to the public through their Christmas market extended weekend. You will be able to open doors on more fashion, jewelry, paintings, ceramics, sculptures and home decor finds.
8. Puces Pop Winter Edition. [Dec 6 – Dec 15]. For two 3 day weekends in a row, Puces Pop by Pop Montreal invites you to discover a variety of local artisans, different for each weekend. Pop Montreal is an international music festival that occurs every late September during 5 days featuring over 450 bands as well as films, art, fashion, crafts and over 100 special events locally and abroad. It celebrates independent arts and emerging talents and this translates into the ambiance of its Christmas market where you will find clothing, accessories, art, body care, kids items, houseware, decorative items and more.
9. Montreal Craft Show. [Dec 6 – Dec 22]. Presented by Conseil des Métiers d’Arts du Québec, Quebec’s crafts council, this Christmas shopping exhibition has been around for 60 years and gathers about 400 exhibitors from the province of Quebec, Canada and beyond the geographical perimeters of the country. The event also offers interesting crafts workshops, such as textile impression and ceramic working. The salon will be held at Place Bonaventure following its tradition.
