From the Pantene and Cover Girl beauty stations to the art exhibit hall passing by the Target lounge to land in front of the runway showcasing creations of our talented designers on cute and diverse models, the 25th edition of the Montreal Fashion Week had a lot of eye candy to offer. Discover our favorite moments of the FW. Montreal’s textile magicians seemed to agree that spring-summer 2014 is going to be floral, comfortable, drapy and will integrate much more transparent garments with a savant game of geometrical and asymetrical cuts, but don’t worry, fitted cuts will always be IN we dare to believe.
Helmer stood out and offered quite a fashion SHOW. His collection used a Genius mix of textures subtly married to embroidery, feathers and various interesting cuts which were a pure delight to Watch. Viewing the models parade was like contemplating an army of chic and over the top (with just the right degree) Lady Gagas with spectacular outfits, but 50% classier and 25% less extravagant.
La Ruelle put together a geometrical modern sober office collection which probably would have been Audrey Hepburn’s favorite collection of the MFW, and we’re not sure whether the necklace added a futuristic or a raelian touch.
Eve Gravel: The designer must have been inspired by Lana Del Rey’s Blue Jean song as the collection cries blue DENIM in all its glory and we LOVE IT! We also liked the balance between casual and chic. Her key pieces included boyfriend jeans and overalls. Is it spring already?!
Annie 50‘s défilé was a rendez-vous between western and modern chic. (I had a sudden craving for milk shakes during and after the show)
UNTTLD‘s cocktail-formal soirée were like pieces of art harmoniously marrying sheer to opaque and contouring feminine curves in ways that redefine women’s silhouettes.
NISSE: Our seats welcomed us with tastfull scarfs in a NISSE gift bag in a romantic ambiance created with the small lights on the runway. They know how to treat a woman! The formal outfits that were served to our hungry eyes are perfect to spice up those 9 to 5 workdays with a touch of originality and subtle edginess.
Marilyne Baril: We liked the colors of MB’s runway looks and the fluidity and clean cuts that reminded us of the chic jetset traveller. W’re totally on board.
Brit Wacher: Sheer migrates South in SS14. I admire their creativity for coming up with such original asymetrical and destructured pieces.
Caroline Constas’s runway was characterized by its young glam chic vibe using neutrals and prints tailored in feminine centered cuts that could be worn for a cocktail and for work, totally Young professionals recommended.
Martin Lim: Although, we didn’t get some outfits that looked like nurse jackets (not the custplay ones, the real ones) and the big jellyfish à la Sponge Bob on some tops, we got the overall message of the collection. ample meets stylish and every fashionista needs a piece like that to relax in style during the week-end.
Pedram Karimi must have been inspired by mount Olympus judging by all the drapés and muscles presented. And not so sure, once again, about the nurse fever that seemed present on the runways for SS 2014.
Melissa Nepton fusioned geometrical and minimalist with a tiny bit of prints all skillfully juxtaposed everything with sheer materials for pleasant eye illusions. (… with some nurse flashes and still not getting that fever)
Rush Couture had an apparent spanish influence exposed by giant latin hats, flowers and ruffles. We were expecting a hot Toreador to pop up somewhere during the show, but the great collection made us forget.
Travis Taddeo’s live urban mannequins display was different and original which reflected the essence of the brand and its collection.
