Last May 4th, Chris and I attended the Charity event organized by Fondation de la Mode de Montréal honoring Jean-Claude Poitras this year.
The olympic stadium, the event venue, was overflowed with stylish people dressed in gorgeous gowns and distinguished suits. As soon as we checked in, we were directed to the vip section with the medias, designers and the Quebec gratin. Amongst the guest list, Alxandre Taillefer from Dans l’oeil du dragon (who is the president of the contemporary art museum‘s board of directors), Denis Gagnon, Christian Chenail and many other fashion people. So if you are looking to expand that fashion network of yours, this annual event is a good investment.
JCP made an emoving allocution speaking about his passion and determination and how proud he was to see his creations on different generations. Towards the end, I couldn’t help but tell him how his speech resonated with sincerity and inspiration. He was surprised to hear my spontanious comment, but seemed pleased. Goodness exudes from that man and I am not saying that just becasue he reminds me of my sweet businessman gran’pa.
We, then enjoyed a delicious tapas dish with shrimp, sushi, etc. accompanied by a soft fruity wine just as I love. We learned that his artworks were now part of Roccia Art Gallery‘s permanent exhibition, he designed the uniforms worn by STM employees which, thank goodness, have now a pop of color.
This remarkable man presented his collections in 10 different countries, has won several awards, such as the menstyle awards in Toronto, Fil d’Or in Montecarlo, Moda del Amor in California, 3 Griffes d’Or, several designer of the year nominations in Quebec and, also heard he is the president of the board of Quebec’s textile and costume museum.
Fondation de la Mode de Montréal aims to encourage the next generation of talent in fashion, research and development and it has honoured many distinguished guests of honor over the years including Sensation Mode cofounders Chantal Durivage and Jean-François Daviau, Lise Watier, designers Paco Rabanne and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, president of Browns Shoes Morton Brownstein and Holt Renfrew President Joel Rath, etc. some of whom were present at the evening to present awards to scholarship recipients.
The evening ended with a fashion show showcasing Lasalle College graduates’ talent and imagination, enjoy and yes there were some medieval and animal inspired costumes pieces.
