Montreal’s Fashion & Design Festival is back this year for another edition with some pretty cool new concepts and micro events. Here’s a round up of our coup de coeur events taking place this week in the city. We broke down the fashion talks and fashion shows by day and we grouped the other multi date and activities such as networking, music, fashion movies and food in a different section.
MONDAY AUGUST 20th
FMD Talks
Business Lunch – Women in Business | 12 pm | Wilder Building, 1435 de Bleury Street
This women in business talk will bring together Elisabeth Rioux CEO of Hoaka Swimwear, Sofia Sokoloff CEO of Sokoloff Lingerie and Andreanne Marquis CEO of Womance and will be moderated by Debbie Zakaib CEO of mmode.

Business Lunch – Luxury’s Place in Montreal | 12 pm | Wilder Building, 1435 de Bleury Street
Learn from the host Jacques Nantel, professor emeritus of the marketing department at HEC Montreal and luxury figures in Montreal such as Christophe Bedos, CEO of Birks, Marie Saint Pierre, designer and CEO of Maison Marie Saint Pierre, and Michel-Andre St-Jean director of digital marketing at SAQ and Marie-Claude Lortie journalist at La Presse.

Learn more about Montreal’s fashion history since the beginning of the industrialisation with Eva Friede, former fashion editor at the Gazette and her guest of honor Herschel Segal, founder of Le Chateau, also the first in Canada to sell low rise pants, one of the instigators of John Lennon’s and Yoko Ono’s bed-in and their velvet outfits.
Caroline Issa, Communicating Fashion | 5:30 pm | Wilder Building, 1435 de Bleury Street
Caroline Issa chief executive and fashion director of TANK Magazine and editor of Because online magazine will talk about communications and marketing in the fashion world. After graduating the prestigious Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, she started her career as a strategic management consultant in San Francisco for clients such as Nordstrom and, Dr. Pepper/7Up. She then moved to Singapore and London where she worked with Standard Chartered bank and Boots. She was twice named on Vanity Fair’s International Best Dressed List, on The Business Of Fashion’s Most Influential list and has created 8 collections for Nordstrom among many other things.

Join this important conversation about diversity and inclusion in the fashion industry with Chris Bergeron Content Experience VP at Cossette, Julie Artacho photographer, Sage Paul fashion designer and artist and moderated by TPL’s Josiane Stratis.
WEDNESDAY AUGUST 22nd
Fashion Shows
Reluxe | 6:30 pm | Quartier des Spectacles
Fashion show featuring preloved luxury rocked by Montreal business and public figures on the runway. The featured pieces will then be shoppable the following day at the Magasin du Chainon, at 4375 Saint-Laurent during a VIP viewing, followed by a cocktail reception and auction benefiting Le Chaînon foundation at the TD Galerie Lounge. TPL’s Josiane Stratis in collaboration with the National Bank’s realize your dreams project is presenting a fashion show from her favorite designers in a diverse extended range of sizes. There will also be a pop up store making the fashion show items available for shopping in the pop up village.

FMD Talks
Pop Couture | Fashion After Cristobal Balenciaga | 5 pm | Musée McCord, 690 Sherbrooke Street East
In synergy with the Balenciaga, Master of Couture exposition at the McCord museum, Luca Marchetti will discuss the late 60’s transformations in the fashion world. The talk will be followed by William Klein’s film Who Are You, Polly Maggoo? about this disruption in the history of fashion.
