We recently had the chance to interview the ladies behind Bertrand La Ligne for their upcoming launch and here is how they describe what to expect from their funky fashion line.
1. How did you meet and how did you decide to work together?
“I always had this fire in me, a desire to create something bigger than me. It’s the desire to make my dreams happen in my lifetime. I decided to condition myself to think that I can accomplish anything and I will surround myself with the best to achieve what falls out of my area of expertise. Being a former Graphic Design Student from Marie-Victorin, I became friends with students from several programs. Having maintained some friendships over the years, I wrote to those in the fashion world to find a creative pattern designer also skilled as a fashion maker to help me materialize my project. ( my dream )
I contacted several people for over a year before a friend of a friend told me about a class friend of hers. It was then that I discovered Laurence Matin. From the first meeting, our common passion and chemistry confirmed that we would be a good team. ”

2. What message are you trying to convey across your line or what’s its style?
These are 22 unique jackets. Bertrand La Ligne, “it’s the satisfaction of knowing that each suit has a unique owner. “They are colorful, covered with glitter or have eccentric shoulders. We wanted to send the message to “not be afraid to shine loudly”.

3. Which epoch inspiration will you infuse your collections with?
We took inspirations from the 1980’s with shiny and textured materials. While incorporating elements of styles from this period in time, the cut was thought to flatter today’s woman. (An interesting fun fact, fashion design runs in the family as Marilyne’s grand father, Pierre Bertrand, was a fashion designer, operating on Chabanel, and the collection is inspired by his 80’s pieces.)
4. In terms of colors, textures and materials, what sets Bertrand apart as a fashion line?
The collection is composed of a wide variety of colors and fabrics. There are as many neutrals such as black, navy blue and beige, as more intense colors such as fuchsia with snake patterns or satin chartreuse green. Sequence models stand out and we even have ‘two colors’ with reversible sequences.
5. What sizes are available?
For now we only offer unique sizes. Our design with frilly sleeves is more fitted to the body, while the classic fit is wider or even ‘boyish’ and therefore can fit a wider range of silhouettes. We have recently discussed more seriously the next collection and our desire to create inclusive sizes.
6. What is the price range per piece?
It’s between $450 – $550.
7. Where can we find the pieces?
We will be part of a POP-UP shop at The Vintage Label at 5689 St. Laurent, from November 12th to 17th 2019.
8. Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
We will be launching the clothing line on Monday November 4th. It’s a private fashion show at the Gora Gallery.
