Last Wednesday, Montrealers had a preview of what the next generation of emerging designers are working on for Spring/Summer 2020 and it was interesting to see the display of creativity and the art of certain crafts deployed in different fascinating ways. This 12th edition of Fashion Preview, Montreal Fashion Week, took place at Société des Arts Technologiques and saw its first edition of fashion talks.
Give this designer a crown for his creative pieces and his ruffle layering and pleating game. Puffy sleeves, capes and curvy lines are also elements that characterize his pieces. And this is important, take a look at how he creatively creates volume and curves with his pleating savoir faire that you can see deployed in very interesting different ways, sometimes geometrical, sometimes structural and sometimes light, flowy and romantic.
Genia Evelina went for a full romantic runway with sheerness, lace, satin, ruffles and little flowery prints. But the fun was really in the superposition of fabrics such as satinated ones with transparent mesh, the combination of darker and lighter fabrics symetrically juxtaposed in the middle of the body and the layering of different romantic printed lacey fabrics correlated to the carrots used as props on the runway (yes the vegetable). Genia Evelina’s runway transpired with innocent effortless sexy fearlessness.
Lakuachimoto’s genderless collection had an anti bullying theme and included an orange bell dress to ring the alarm on bullying (let’s all take a moment to silently applaud him and his very important initiative). It was fun to watch the movement of different fabrics and textures on different male and female bodies. The show also paid attention to little details like arm warmers and strappy sandals with contrasting socks. Among the fun pieces, the quilted shorts, the super hero cropped capes, the one shoulder pieces and the pleated culottes.
Dark and lighter robes, shorter and longer ones. The collection evokes a combination of a yeezy version of church missionary attire and urban nurse. This ultimately translates to hightened comfort and a new level of laid back clothing. Another interesting thing about Process Visual is the extra long sleeves, which is a Fall Winter 2019 trend.
Karimi presented a genderless collection that appeared to be slightest drapy and somewhat fitted. It was like a hipstery Greek gods collection strait out of mount Olympus. I could totally imagine Athena and Hermes wearing the two right pieces.

The students of EMMV did a great job at serving fluorescent coolors on the runway. They did it in a fun, modern urban way that made you wish you could order a statement piece for your own wardrobe. They incorporated it seamlessly as elements of everyday wear with other fabrics and in sporty pieces you would have never thought of incorporating fur in, especially not colored fur.
