1. More collaboration. I want to see more people working together to bring Montreal Fashion to another level. Let’s forget about fears, let’s destroy the walls between everybody and let’s conquer the world together. We will preach by example, don’t be shy, hit us up with your ideas.
2. More colors on the runways. I understand designers sell in stores and they want to appeal to most people. However, we need, WE DEMAND more colors. I want to feel like I just threw back a can of red bull when I look at them, I want to feel its vibrant effects, I want sunshine and action in a piece of clothing. J.CREW seems to have a pretty good recipe.
3. Burst of Montreal designers on international runways. To increase chances of this happening, dear designers, you need to add that extra oomph, that extra original cut, accessory, fabric or color. Take a page out of Denis Gagnon and Helmer‘s note books for inspiration.
4. More industry events. I want to see more initiatives for industry events to connect people and help naturally create great collaborations.
5. A deeper general connection with local shops and brands. I get the feeling we don’t give local brands as much attention as we should be. It might be because they don’t do as much advertising as bigger international brands, or they’re not as exotic as the Spanish Zara or the Swedish H&M, or maybe because they are located in different areas compared to big shopping arteries. Let’s explore, have fun and see what potential Montreal can offer our wardrobes. These pieces from NISSE are a good example.
